Alice McLerran grew up as an Army brat, moving every year or so from Hawaii to Germany, New York to Ecuador. She currently lives the gypsy life with her physicist husband, traveling the world and spending her time between their home in New York and their dacha in the Oregon highlands. She's willing to go to any school! At bedtime, my mother would make up stories, and my grandma was a storyteller as well. I'm always reading, reading, reading. Most writers, I believe, do.
One stroke of luck, I believe, was that I began writing for other people right away. I've made a lot of poems and small books as gifts throughout the years. When you're writing for actual people, you naturally want to give it your all.
