Alma Flor Ada was born in the Cuban city of Camaguey. She has studied and taught in several countries, including Spain, Peru, and the United States. Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Spain, and the United States have all published her children's books. Alma Flor Ada has four children and three grandkids. She was awarded the Marta Salotti Gold Medal in Argentina and the Christopher Prize in the United States. She lives in San Francisco, from where she travels all over the world in search of the natural beauty she adores.
