Alma Guillermoprieto contributes to the New Yorker and the New York Review of Books on a regular basis. She was appointed a MacArthur Fellow in 1995 and is the author of Searching for History, The Heart That Bleeds, and Samba. She was raised in both Mexico and the United States and now resides in Mexico City.
