Anita Bijsterbosch is my name. I was born in the Netherlands in 1961. Reading has always been a passion of mine. I used to spend hours thumbing through books as a kid, admiring the images and wishing I might one day create such wonderful graphics myself. I studied the photographs in minute detail and concocted my own little story to go with them.
I took drawing and painting lessons in tiny galleries in my neighborhood after high school. Drawing and painting books also taught me a lot. Yet, I was able to learn numerous techniques merely by trying on my own. I used to read my kids a bedtime tale every night when they were little.
Certain picture books, I realized again, are true works of art. That's when I decided I wanted to create my own picture books. The judges of the Key Colours International Illustrators Award 2012 remarked on me. Whose Hat Is That? is a novel about who owns whose hat.
