BILL BISHOP was a reporter for the Austin American-Statesman when he began working with sociologist and statistician Robert Cushing on a study of city expansion and political polarization. Bishop worked as a columnist for the Lexington Herald-Leader and co-owned and operated the Bastrop County Times in Smithville, Texas, with his wife. He is based in Austin.
