Heat and Among the Thugs are written by Bill Buford. He has received a Marshall Scholarship, a James Beard Award, and the Premio Sandro Onofri for narrative reporting from the Comune di Roma. Buford lived in England for eighteen years, when he was the founding editor of the literary magazine Granta and the proprietor of Granta Publications. He relocated to the United States in 1995 to work as the fiction editor, a staff writer, and a regular contributor at The New Yorker. He went to Lyon, France, with his family in 2008 and stayed for five years. He was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and received his education at the University of California, Berkeley, and King's College, Cambridge. He now resides in New York City with his wife, Jessica Green, a wine educator and writer, and their twin kids.
