Paul Brickhill (1916-1991) was an Australian journalist and author whose World War II novels became famous films. Despite being one among the prisoners left behind, he was intimately involved in the escape from Stalag Luft III. Following the war, he published The Great Escape (1950), the first comprehensive account of the escape, which brought the incident to the attention of the general public. He went on to write The Dam Busters and Reach for the Sky, two more bestselling war novels. Three of the books have been adapted into feature films.
