Caldwell B. Caldwell B. Caldwell B. For more than 35 years, Esselstyn, JR., M.D., worked at the Cleveland Clinic as a researcher and clinician. He was president of the American Society of Endocrine Surgeons in 1991, and he hosted the inaugural National Conference on the Elimination of Heart Disease that year. He received the Benjamin Spock Award for Compassion in Medicine for the first time in 2005. For more than two decades, Dr. Esselstyn and his wife, Ann Crile Esselstyn, have adopted a plant-based diet. They collaborate to counsel patients in Cleveland and on the farm where Dr. Esselstyn grew up in upstate New York.
