Carolyn Ives Gilman is a science fiction and fantasy author who has been nominated for Nebula and Hugo Awards. Halfway Human is one of her works, as is the duology Islands of the Forsaken and Ison of the Isles. Her short work has been published in a number of best-of-the-year anthologies and has been translated into seven languages. She works for the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC, and resides there.
