Catherine Palmer, who grew up in Kenya and Bangladesh, is founder and director of The Refugee Sewing Society (RSS) in Atlanta, GA. Women from such war-torn countries as Bhutan, Burma, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Pakistan, and Iraq gather weekly to create Refugee Friend dolls. Catherine founded the RSS in 2008. It has served more than one hundred refugee women, helping them to heal as they earn an income from items they sew, knit, crochet, weave, and fashion into jewelry. For 25 years, Catherine was a national bestselling fiction author. Her 57 published books have won many awards, including the prestigious Christy Award. She and her husband, Tim, have two adult sons.
