How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional World, written by Charles Yu, was chosen one of Time magazine's top books of the year. He was a finalist for the PEN Center USA Literary Prize and awarded the National Book Foundation's 5 Under 35 Award for his story collection Third Class Superhero. His writing has appeared in publications such as The New York Times, Playboy, and Slate, among others. Yu, his wife Michelle, and their two daughters live in Los Angeles.
