Damian Conway is an honorary Associate Professor with Monash University's School of Computer Science and Software Engineering in Melbourne, Australia. He currently heads Thoughtstream, an international IT training company that provides programmer development from novice to masterclass level throughout Europe, North America, and Australasia. In his honor, the best technical paper at the annual Perl Conference was named after him. He is a member of The Perl Conference's technical committee, has spoken at many Open Source conferences as a keynote speaker, is a former columnist for The Perl Journal, and is the author of the book Object Oriented Perl. Damian is the creator of several well-known Perl modules, including Parse: : RecDescent (a sophisticated parsing tool), Class: : Contract (design-by-contract programming in Perl), and Lingua: : EN: : Inflect (rule-based English transform). He got the first Perl Foundation Development Award in 2001 and spent 20 months working on projects for the betterment of Perl.
