David W Blight

At Yale University, David W.Blight is the Sterling Professor of History and the Director of the Gilder Lehrman Institute for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition. He is the author or editor of more than a dozen volumes, including American Oracle: The Civil War in the Civil Rights Era, Race and Reunion: The Civil War in American Memory, and annotated editions of Frederick Douglass's first two autobiographies. He has spent much of his professional life working on Douglass and has received numerous awards, including the Bancroft Prize, the Abraham Lincoln Prize, and the Frederick Douglass Prize.
