Davis Jim

Jim Davis was born in Marion, Indiana, on July 28, 1945. He went on to Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, where he made a name for himself by having one of the lowest cumulative grade point averages in the university's history. The Garfield comic strip debuted on June 19, 1978, and was syndicated in forty-one US cities. a collection of newspapers Garfield is now syndicated in over 2,100 newspapers worldwide, reaching over 200 million readers, earning it the title of World's Most Widely Syndicated Comic Strip from Guinness World Records. Davis has won numerous awards for Garfield, including four Emmys for Outstanding Animated Program and admission into the Licensing Hall of Fame (1998), but his most cherished honors come from his colleagues in the National Cartoonist Society: Best Humor Strip (1981 and 1985), the Elzie Segar Award (1990), and the coveted Reuben Award (1990) for overall quality in cartooning.
