Derek Nikitas is the author of the Edgar Award-nominated novel Pyres, published by Minotaur Books. The Long Divide, his second novel, was named a Washington Post Best Novel of the Year. His short stories have appeared in the Ontario Review, Chelsea, Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine, New South, and The Pedestal Magazine, among other publications. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with an MFA in creative writing and Georgia State University with a PhD in creative writing. He is the director of Eastern Kentucky University's low-residency MFA in creative writing, the Bluegrass Writers Studio, and a visiting assistant professor of creative writing at the University of Rhode Island.
