Eduardo  Galeano

Eduardo Galeano was born in 1940 in Uruguay and worked as a journalist there until he was arrested and forced to quit the country. He is the author of Open Veins of Latin America, one of Latin America's most well-known books. Days and Nights of Love and War was first published in Cuba and awarded the Casa de las Americas prize in 1978. Galeano won the Lannan Foundation's Cultural Award for Freedom in 1999.
