Edward  Snowden

Edward Snowden grew up in the shadow of Fort Meade in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. He was a systems engineer who worked as a contractor for the National Security Agency and served as an officer of the Central Intelligence Agency. He has earned various honors for his public service, including the International League of Human Rights' Carl von Ossietzky Medal, the German Whistleblower Prize, the Ridenhour Prize for Truth-Telling, and the Right Livelihood Award. He is currently the president of the Freedom of the Press Foundation's board of directors.
