Ellen McLaughlin's plays have been staged all around the country and around the world. Days and Nights Inside, A Narrow Bed, Infinity's Home, Iphigenia and Other Daughters, Tongue of a Bird, Tongue of a Bird, The Trojan Women, Helen, The Persians, Oedipus, Ajax in Iraq, Kissing the Floor, Septimus and Clarissa, and Penelope are among them. The Public Theater, The National Actors Theatre, and New York Theatre Workshop in New York City; Actors Theatre of Louisville; The Actors' Gang L.A.; Classic Stage Company, NYC; The Intiman Theater, Seattle; Almeida Theater, London; The Mark Taper Forum, L.A.; The Oregon Shakespeare Festival; The Getty Villa, California; and The Guthrie Theater, Minnesota; are among the producers. Helen Merrill Award for Playwriting, Great American Play Contest, Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, NEA, Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Foundation Writer's Award, and Berilla Kerr Award for Playwriting are among the grants and honors. She was awarded a TCG/Fox Residency Grant for her story Ajax in Iraq, which she wrote for the A.R.T.
