Frances Hodgson Burnett
Frances Hodgson Burnett (1849-1924) was born and raised in Manchester, where she spent her childhood. Frances' father died in 1852, and she finally traveled to the United States with her mother and siblings in 1865, residing in Knoxville, Tennessee, with family. While residing in Paris, she married Swan Burnett, a doctor, with whom she had two boys. While the Burnetts were living in Washington, D.C., she wrote her first novel, That Lass o'Lowrie's, in 1877.
