In July 2000, Icon Learning Systems purchased the Netter Collection and continued to update Dr. Netter's original paintings as well as commission new paintings by artists trained in Dr. Netter's approach. Elsevier Inc. was founded in 2005. Icon Learning Systems sold me the Netter Collection as well as all of their publications.

Elsevier Inc. presently has over 50 titles featuring Dr. Netter's artwork. Dr. Netter's work is one of the best instances of how illustration may be used to explain medical topics. The 13-volume Netter Collection of Medical Illustrations, which contains the majority of Dr. Netter's more than 20,000 paintings, is one of the most well-known medical publications ever published. The Netter Atlas of Human Anatomy, first published in 1989, showcases the Netter Collection's anatomical paintings.

It is the anatomy atlas of choice for medical and health professions students all around the world, having been translated into 16 languages. The Netter pictures are admired not merely for their beautiful features, but also for the intellectual information they contain. The goal and purpose of illustration, according to Dr. Netter in 1949, is to clarify a subject. No matter how well painted, gently and discreetly depicted a subject is, it is of little use as a medical illustration unless it serves to clarify some medical point.

Dr. Netter's paintings are informed by his planning, conception, point of view, and approach, which makes them academically valuable. Dr. Netter, an artist and physician, died in 1991.
