Netter F H

Netter was born in 1906 in New York City. He studied art at the Art Students League and the National Academy of Design before enrolling in medical school at New York University, where he graduated in 1931 with a Doctor of Medicine degree. Dr. Netter's notebook doodles caught the attention of the medical faculty and other physicians during his student years, allowing him to supplement his income by illustrating articles and textbooks. After opening a medical career in 1933, he continued to illustrate as a sideline, but eventually decided to give up his practice in favor of a full-time commitment to painting. Dr. Netter began his long cooperation with the CIBA Pharmaceutical Corporation (now Novartis Pharmaceuticals) after serving in the United States Army during World War II.
