Fred Herzog

Fred Herzog was born in Germany in 1930 and moved to Vancouver in 1953. He worked as a medical photographer during the day and spent his nights and weekends documenting the city and its people in brilliant color. Herzog was little obscure until a major exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery in 2007 brought his work to a larger audience, despite the fact that he has been painting prolifically since the 1950s. Herzog has been able to generate satisfactory prints from his slides and exhibit his key early color street photography thanks to digital inkjet printing.
