Gary Lincoff led wild mushroom and edible wild plant study expeditions and forays to 30 countries and gave seminars on mushroom and plant identification and use at the New York Botanical Garden. Lincoff chaired the Telluride Mushroom Festival for 25 years (1980-2004), and he continued to speak there as a keynote speaker for many years. From 1980 to 1986, he served as president of the North American Mycological Association. The Complete Mushroom Hunter and National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Mushrooms are two of his books. He was a New York City resident.
