Gretchen Bakke is a Ph.D. holder. Cultural Anthropology from the University of Chicago She has studied the Soviet Union, the former Yugoslavia, and Cuba, among other failing states. She is an assistant professor of anthropology at McGill University and a past fellow in Wesleyan University's Science in Society Program. Bakke was born in Portland, Oregon, and now considers Washington, D.C. home. When she's in the United States, she's at home.
