Heidi Smith is the chair of the microbiology department at Front Range Community College in Fort Collins, Colorado, where she teaches a range of biology courses each semester, including microbiology, anatomy/physiology, and biotechnology. Her work with other faculty members around the country, the development and implementation of new digital learning tools, and her focus on student learning outcomes have transformed her career. Heidi also manages a federal grant program that prepares and supports disadvantaged students for undergraduate research and transfer to four-year STEM degree programs. She's also a member of the American Society for Microbiology, where she served on the task committee that developed the Curriculum Guidelines for Undergraduate Microbiology Education. Heidi spends her free time with her husband and three small children in the wonderful Colorado outdoors.
