Jeff Speck is a city planner and coauthor of the best-selling book Suburban America. He argues for smart expansion and sustainable design. He headed the Mayors' Institute on City Design as the former director of design at the National Endowment for the Arts, where he worked with dozens of American mayors on their most pressing city planning concerns. He is the founder of a design firm in Washington, D.C.
