Kanoko Sakurakouji was born in Tokyo's central district and enjoys reading, watching plays, traveling, and shopping. Raibu ga Hanetara, her first series, was published in Bessatsu Shojo Comic (now known as Betsucomi) in 2000, and her Betsucomi title Backstage Prince was serialized in VIZ Media's Shojo Beat magazine in 2004. For Black Bird, she received the 54th Shogakukan Manga Award.
