Mockingbird was written by Kathryn Erskine, who won the National Book Award for it. Seeing Red, The Absolute Value of Mike, and The Badger Knight are among her other works. She spent part of her youth in South Africa and grew up listening to Miriam Makeba's music. Africa, Mama!
