Katie Cunningham works for Cox Media Group as a Python and Django developer. While she had always been interested in programming, it wasn't until she started working at NASA that it became a career for her. She gradually moved from gathering needs to full-time development there, advocating for the adoption of more open source in the government sector. She became interested in 508 compliance while working at NASA. She was initially simply concerned with getting her applications through QA as quickly as possible.

But, she developed a desire for a web that was simple to use for everyone over time. Now that she's in the private sector, she's fighting for compliance even on websites where it's not required by law.
