Lawrence A Hoffman

Rabbi Lawrence A. Cohen is a rabbi who lives in Hoffman, PhD, has been a professor of liturgy at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York for more than three decades. He holds the Stephen and Barbara Friedman Chair in Liturgy, Worship, and Ritual and is a world-renowned liturgist. His many writings, written and published, include seven volumes in the Prayers of Awe series: Who by Fire, Who by Water--Un'taneh Tokef; All These Vows--Kol Nidre; We Have Sinned: Sin and Confession in Judaism--Ashamnu and Al Chet; May God Remember: Remembrance and Memorializm--Ashamnu and Al Chet; We Have Sinned: Sin and Confession in Ju Rabbi Hoffman also coedited My People's Passover Haggadah: Traditional Texts, Contemporary Commentaries, a finalist for the National Jewish Book Award (all Jewish Lights), and edited the ten-volume series My People's Prayer Book: Traditional Prayers, Modern Commentaries, which won the National Jewish Book Award. He wrote Rethinking Synagogues: A New Language for Congregational Life (Jewish Lights) in that capacity.
