Loose Threads, a Booklist Top 10 Young Adult Novel, and On Pointe, a Bank Street College Best Children's Book of the Year, are two of her works. She is a co-founder of readergirlz, a literacy advocacy group that won the National Book Foundation's Innovations in Reading Prize.
