Lucy Ruth Cummins is a children's book author, artist, and art director. A Hungry Lion, or A Dwindling Assortment of Animals, her first picture book, was a Governor General's Award finalist, an Irma Black Honor Book, and an ALA Notable Book. She also wrote and illustrated the books Stumpkin and Vampenguin. She had a turtle as a pet as a child, but he ran away.
