Marvin Heiferman works for the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., the Museum of Modern Art, the International Center of Photography, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the New Museum in New York, as well as the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh. Heiferman has contributed to the New York Times, CNN, Artforum, Design Observer, Art in America, and Aperture, among other newspapers, monographs, magazines, and blogs. Almost two dozen works on visual culture have been written or edited by him, including Photography Changes Everything (Aperture/Smithsonian, 2012).
