At Jackson St., Mary Cowhey has been teaching first and second grade. She worked as a community organizer for fourteen years before becoming a teacher in Northampton, Massachusetts. She has received various teaching honors, including the Milken National Educator Award in 2002, the Anti-Defamation League World of Diversity Teacher Recognition Award, and the National League of Women Voters Award.
