Neal Koblitz is a Professor of Mathematics at the Department of Mathematics at the University of Washington. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Waterloo's Centre for Applied Cryptographic Research. He is the independent co-inventor of elliptic curve cryptography and the creator of hyperelliptic curve cryptography. Professor Koblitz graduated from Harvard University, where he was a Putnam Fellow, with a bachelor's degree in 1969. His Ph.D. was awarded to him. In 1974, he graduated from Princeton University under the guidance of Nickolas Katz.
