Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) designed 327 covers for The Saturday Evening Post over the period of nearly 50 years. The beloved painter and illustrator had a remarkable talent for recapturing the idealistic spirit of American culture, as well as touching and heartbreaking everyday situations. For his vibrant and sympathetic images of our country, Rockwell received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the United States' highest civilian honor, in 1977.
