Preserving the Appearances (1988), Poetic Diction (1984), and Worlds Apart (1971) are among the many volumes written by OWEN BARFIELD, a distinguished philosopher, jurist, and student of the nature of language and human consciousness. At the time of his death in 1997, he was living in East Sussex, UK. G.B. is a long-time buddy of Barfield's. TENNYSON is an English professor at UCLA and the editor of A Carlyle Reader (1984). He is also the author of Owen Barfield on C.S. Lewis. Lewis (Wesleyan University Press, 1989) and other works.
