Down East: The Magazine of Maine is edited in chief by best-selling novelist Paul Doiron. He is a graduate of Yale University and possesses an MFA from Emerson College. He is a native of Maine. His first novel, The Poacher's Son, won the Barry Award, was a finalist for the Edgar and Anthony Awards, and won the Strand Award for best first novel. Paul Lindquist, a Licensed Maine Guide, and his wife, Kristen Lindquist, live on a trout stream in coastal Maine.
