Radley Balko is a Washington Post reporter and investigative writer. He now writes and maintains the Watch, a news and opinion site focused on civil liberties and the criminal justice system. He is the author of Rise of the Warrior Cop: The Militarization of America's Police Forces, which received critical acclaim from publications such as the Economist, New Yorker, Wall Street Journal, and Publishers Weekly, and was selected one of the best investigative journalism books of the year by Harvard University's Nieman Foundation. Balko has produced dozens of articles about the forensics disasters in Hayne, West, and Mississippi since 2006. Solving Kathy Mabry's Murder: Horrible 15-Year-Old Tragedy Shows Decades-Long Mississippi Scandal, which he published in January 2013, was one of the most highly read Huffington Post pieces of the year. Balko received the Innocence Project Journalism Award in 2015, in part for his reporting in Mississippi.
