D.G. Robin Robin D.G. Robin D.G. At the University of Southern California, Kelley teaches history, American studies, and ethnicity. He was the William B. From 2003 to 2006, he was the William B. Columbia University's Ransford Professor of Cultural and Historical Studies. He was a professor of history and Africana studies at New York University from 1994 to 2003, as well as the chair of the history department from 2002 to 2003. At the age of 32, Kelley is one of the youngest tenured professors in a comprehensive academic subject. He has spent the most of his career studying American and African-American history, with a focus on African-American musical culture, such as jazz and hip-hop.
