Ronald J.Wanttaja is a former Boeing systems engineer who worked on satellite orbit/constellation design and analysis, launch vehicle and onboard propulsion system trades, and space system operations concepts. He collaborated on the International Space Station's early design studies. He was an on-duty operator for the Defense Support Program missile early-warning satellite as an Air Force veteran. He has written for Private Pilot, Flying, Sport Aviation, Flight Line, Kitplanes, and other magazines as a freelance aviation journalist. He is also the author of McGraw-Hill's Kit Aircraft Building, Third Edition.

His aviation writing has received numerous awards, including the Bax Seat Prize from Flying Magazine and a journalistic award from the Aviation/Space Writers Association. In addition to historical fiction, Wanttaja has written and published historical fiction.
