Ross M Elsohn
After the commencement of the war, Michael Ross, an undergraduate, volunteered for military service and was commissioned into the Welch Regiment. This classic book, initially published in 1997 as From Liguria With Love and now revised by his son David, recounts his adventures as a POW and an escapee fighting alongside the partisans in North Africa and Italy. Ross was Mentioned in Despatches for his bravery. During the war, he went to Italy and married Giovanna, the daughter of the family who had concealed him from the enemy for months. Before joining HM Diplomatic Service, he served in Korea, Hong Kong, and Berlin. As a consular official, he spent the last years of his career in North America and South Africa.
He and Giovanna retired in 1982 and split their time between London and Bordighera, Italy. Michael died in 2012, after a joyful marriage of 66 years.
