Rudolfo A Anaya
Professor emeritus of English at the University of New Mexico, Rudolfo Anaya is widely regarded as one of the creators of modern Chicano literature. In 2001, Anaya was awarded the National Medal of Arts for Literature, and his work Alburquerque (the city's original Spanish spelling) was awarded the PEN Center West Prize for Fiction. He's also won the Premio Quinto Sol, a national Latino literary prize, the Before Columbus Foundation's American Book Award, the Mexican Consulate's Medal of Friendship, and the Western Literary Association's Outstanding Achievement Award.
