R.C.Hibbeler earned a BS in Civil Engineering (major in Structures) and an MA in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana. Northwestern University awarded him a doctorate in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. Hibbeler's professional background includes postdoctoral work at Argonne National Laboratory in nuclear safety and analysis, as well as structural and stress analysis work at Chicago Bridge and Iron and Sargent and Lundy in Chicago. In Ohio, New York, and Louisiana, he worked as an engineer. Hibbeler is currently a professor at the University of Louisiana in Lafayette, where he teaches civil and mechanical engineering courses. He taught at the University of Illinois at Urbana, Youngstown State University, Illinois Institute of Technology, and Union College in the past.
