Ryan Ridgway, DVM, was raised on a family farm about an hour south of Regina, Saskatchewan, where he began blacksmithing to help with farm repairs. He began selling his ironwork online and at local craft fairs during his undergraduate years in Saskatoon to help pay for his education. At this time, he also enrolled in a blacksmithing school offered by his local museum and began volunteering there, giving him the opportunity to learn from and teach other blacksmiths. He began writing blacksmithing articles after getting his veterinary degree, and his work has appeared in periodicals such as Hobby Farms, Carving Magazine, Canadian Cowboy Country Magazine, and Rural Roots. He also contributes veterinary articles to a variety of publications and writes a pet-care column for a number of town newspapers in Western Canada.
