Samuel Shem, MD, PhD (Stephen Bergman's pen name) is the author of several novels, including the New York Times bestseller The House of God. He is a author, playwright, and activist in addition to being a doctor. He was a Rhodes Scholar who spent three decades on the faculty of Harvard Medical School, where he developed the Bill W. and the Dr. Bob Project at Harvard Medical School's Division of Addictions.
