Sarah Stewart and her husband, illustrator David Small, collaborate on award-winning children's books. The Money Tree, The Friend, The Journey, The Library, and The Gardener, a Caldecott Honor book and Christopher Award winner, are among their works. Stewart grew up in Texas and went to college to study Latin and philosophy. She's worked as a teacher, a speechwriter, and an ombudsman, among other lesser-known positions. She's reviewed children's books for The New York Times, edited text for The Texas Observer, and had a poem in an obscure journal every now and then.
Stewart and her husband, illustrator and author David Small, live in a historic mansion on the St. Lawrence River's bend. The Joseph River is located in Michigan.
