Simon Stephens

The Royal Court staged Simon Stephens' first play, BLUEBIRD, in 1998. In 1999, he was the Royal Exchange Theatre's writer-in-residence. He was nominated for the Olivier Award for Most Promising Writer for his second play, HERONS (Royal Court, 2001). In 2001, his radio piece FIVE LETTERS HOME TO ELIZABETH was broadcast on Radio 4, followed by DIGGING in 2003. The Pearson Award for Best New Play in 2001-2 went to PORT, which was produced at the Manchester Royal Exchange in 2002. In May, Actors Touring Company premiered One Minute at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, ahead of a national tour.
