Stephen Fried is a bestselling author and award-winning journalist who now teaches at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism as an adjunct professor. He is the author of Thing of Beauty: The Tragedy of Supermodel Gia, Appetite for America: Fred Harvey and the Business of Civilizing the Wild West--One Dinner at a Time (a New York Times bestseller included in the PBS documentary The Harvey Girls: Opportunity Bound), Bitter Pills: Inside the Dangerous World of Legal Medicines, The New Rabbi, and the article He's also a co-author, alongside Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy. A Shared Struggle: A Personal Journey Through the History and Future of Mental Illness and Addiction, written by Kennedy. Fried has written for Vanity Fair, GQ, The Washington Post Magazine, Rolling Stone, Glamour, and Philly magazine, and has won two National Magazine Awards. He and his wife, author Diane Ayres, live in Philadelphia.
