On the Rupal Face of Pakistan's 8,126-meter Nanga Parbat, Steve House and Vince Anderson pioneered a new direct route. He also spends time climbing in the Alaska Range, the Canadian Rockies, and the Alps of Europe. In recent years, Steve has been particularly prolific in the Canadian Rockies, opening large new routes on many of the range's major faces, including Robson's Emperor Face, Mount Alberta's North Face, North Twin's North Face, Howse Peak's East Face, and Mount Fay's East Face. Since 1999, he has served as a Patagonia alpine ambassador. He has guided for Exum Mountain Guides, the American Alpine Institute, and North Cascades Mountain Guides as an independent guide. House was born in La Grande and now lives in Central Oregon, near Bend.
