Tod Papageorge graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a BA in English literature in 1962, and during his final semester there, he began collecting photographs. Two Guggenheim Fellowships and two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships have been bestowed upon him. Papageorge was named Walker Evans Professor of Photography and Director of Graduate Studies in Photography at Yale University in 1979, roles he still holds today.
